Reflection: Business Intelligence Analytics

Business Intelligence Analytics is official wrapped up and I am happy to share that my confidence level in creating a detailed analysis of an organization, presenting a perspective on what actions to take next, and defending that position has increased.

BIA was a lesson in following through on the same organization, digging deeper in the analysis every week, and thinking of the organization from every level. I will continue to use the skills that this course strengthened throughout my career by using analysis to tell a story, and by laying out a point of view in each analysis provided. I also plan to use Bayesian Analysis in the future and was surprised at how straight forward the information was presented and how easy it was to develop into a skill.

BIA was challenging in that it forced experimentation with Microsoft PowerBI. This was difficult to overcome as confidence in what visualization to use, how to display the information, and how to tell a story with data may not be very strong during Week 1. I found that this was a great tactic by Week 3. Immersion into the use of Microsoft PowerBI without guidance required me to select the best visualization on my own and I began thinking about the story I wanted to tell and how I wanted to best present the data for my point of view. It was helpful to practice this skill while also learning how to best utilize the visualizations available.

Overall, I enjoyed the Business Intelligence Analytics course, found value in most of the assignments required, was challenged in using the necessary tools with minimal direction, and learned best through the immersive and engaging coursework.
