The Business Intelligence Master of Science (BIMS) program exceeded my goals and expectations set at the beginning of this journey. I came into the program expecting to get some measured practice with BI systems and leave with a solid and foundational understanding of the systems, processes, and concepts. Instead, I am leaving with extensive practice in Microsoft PowerBI, experience building relational data sets that can be turned into visualizations, and experience using data, visualizations, and slide decks to tell a visually impactful story.
The BIMS program allowed me to learn, practice, and come close to mastering the entire BI process ranging from building a proposal to building a comprehensive dashboard. The program’s content gave me the knowledge, skills, and abilities to confidently turn data into information and use data to drive decisions. I learned how to find the data I need, how to transform the data into a format that is usable, and how to turn the data into easily digestible information. The amount of skills I’ve gained during the program and the invaluable practice the program has allowed for cannot be easily listed except to say that the program taught and allowed for the practice of a comprehensive set of BI skills that will be applicable for any future role and career.
I will apply nearly every skill learned during this program in my future roles and career. Most immediately, I will use the Microsoft Excel skills I learned while creating relational data sets for visualization to ease my current role’s heavy demand on analyzing data displayed in Excel. Long term, I plan to use the visualization and creative presentation skills to develop impactful messaging to leadership that solidifies my value in future organizations. Finally, I plan to use the data analysis and data visualization tools to drive creative solutions using data-driven decision making.
The value of this program has been immense, and I am very thankful that I chose this program over so many other options.
On that note, I am happy to be DONE as well!
