Wow!
Visualizations & Creative Reporting sets the standard for the Business Intelligence program.
This course was extremely valuable, offered direct and actionable feedback, and focused on the practice of the skill over all else. It stands as the best and most important course in the program so far.
Visualizations & Creative Reporting (VCR) matched all of my expectations set at this beginning of this program. This was a welcome change, as some of the courses have not left me with the same feeling of accomplishment. I am leaving the VCR course with a much greater understanding of the Power BI program, creating a true multi-report dashboards, and key design elements to make the dashboards and reports I create more impactful.
Reflecting on the mastery journey and how ambition plays into a concept like visualizations and creative reporting I would have to say that it absolutely does.
My thoughts on this come from the previous courses and content in the program. During those courses, Power BI would create reasonably attractive reports that looked professional to a beginner user. After taking VCR, that standard is elevated and without ambition to meet that standard and build cohesive, visually appealing reports and dashboards.
My favorite assignment in the VCR course was the Super Hero Dashboard. Creating a dashboard that a hero may use on their night out fighting crime was both an interesting concept and one that allowed for the chance to practice using color schemes, fonts, and images to theme the dashboard. Simple practices like this make it easier to take a skill like dashboard design for a hero and apply it to an organization – which often has its own color-story just like a hero would.
This point is also a key point I will take away and use in my future career. I currently create simple visuals for the teams I work with in order to better showcase the data we have at hand. I plan to use company colors for my reporting to build a cohesive brand image and drive company spirit.
